George Brett to Receive Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory’s Living Legend Award

Hall of Famer Honored for Legendary Career and Lasting Impact on the Game To Receive Award November 13

Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory is proud to announce that baseball icon George Brett will be the recipient of the Living Legend Award on November 13th. Since its inception in 2007, the Living Legend Award has recognized baseball greats who have made legendary contributions to the game and society, celebrating excellence, integrity, and impact.

“I’m incredibly honored to be named this year’s Living Legend,” said Brett. “Louisville Slugger bats were a part of my career from the very beginning, and it means a lot to be recognized by a place that’s so deeply tied to baseball’s history.”

George Brett, one of the most beloved and accomplished players in Major League Baseball history, spent his entire 21-season career with the Kansas City Royals and remains one of the franchise’s most revered figures. His accolades include:

13-Time All-Star: Brett was a perennial fan favorite and standout performer.

3-Time Batting Champion: He achieved batting titles in three different decades (1976, 1980, 1990). Brett is the only player to achieve this feat.

1980 American League MVP: Brett hit an incredible .390 that season, leading the Royals to the World Series.

Over 3,000 Hits: He finished his career with 3,154 hits.

Hall of Fame Induction: Brett was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999 with 98.2% of the vote.

Brett is etched in baseball history for one of the most unforgettable moments in the game: the Pine Tar Incident. On July 24, 1983, Brett hit a dramatic two-run go-ahead home run against the New York Yankees. Yankees manager Billy Martin contested the homer, claiming Brett’s bat had excessive pine tar. The umpires ruled the home run invalid, sparking one of the most iconic scenes in baseball history of Brett charging furiously out of the dugout in protest. Brett’s intensity, competitive spirit and unmistakable passion for the game have cemented him as a legend in baseball lore.
