Star Wars Day

The force was with us on Saturday as we hosted the first-ever Star Wars™ Day at Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. Many guests showed up decked out in Star Wars costumes, and they were rewarded with free admission to the museum.

Winners from our Star Wars-themed trivia contests, as well as the top winners from our Chewbacca “Wookie Call” contest, each received a personalized Louisville Slugger bat.

The museum’s Pee Wee Reese Gallery, which currently houses the Topps Pop Culture: Home Runs to Hollywood exhibition was packed at 3:30 p.m., as children in attendance were invited to take a whack at our Death Star piñata. Each young Jedi Master took a swing at the piñata and took home some Topps® candy after it burst.

Our friend Buddy Bat, the mascot of the Triple-A Louisville Bats, ventured down Main Street to join in our Star Wars festivities, gearing up for the Bats’ Star Wars Night that evening.

The museum currently has a light saber and blaster gun from Star Wars on display in the Topps exhibition (courtesy of the Azarian Collection, azariancollection.com). The light saber was used by Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi. The blaster gun was used by Princess Leia in promotional shots for The Empire Strikes Back, and was also used by Rebel forces in the opening scene of the original Star Wars movie. Guests can view this exhibition through October 4, 2015.

A green light saber bat from the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars was on display in the museum’s “Hold A Piece of History” exhibit. The bat is signed by former major leaguer David Eckstein and his wife Ashley Eckstein, who voiced the character Ahsoka Tano in the series, as well as other cast members from Clone Wars.
